Each year at this time, the Governor appoints
faculty to serve on the Board of Governors. The
selection of one of two faculty is made from
a list of recommendations forwarded from the
Academic Senate for California Community Colleges.
As part of that process, the Academic Senate
is issuing a call for nominations.
We know that your college has outstanding faculty
who are knowledgeable about the issues facing
community colleges today. We are particularly
interested in candidates who represent commitment
to issues of equity and diversity and demonstrate
broad leadership experience with statewide issues.
The variety of experiences your faculty members
have may well serve our faculty on the Board
of Governors. Thus, it is important that all
members of your faculty are aware of this opportunity
to serve.
The enclosed sheet indicates the criteria the
Academic Senate's Executive Committee will use
to select nominees. Particularly, we would expect
candidates to be articulate, capable of presenting
a reasoned argument on issues of educational
policy, and to have knowledge of statewide educational
issues.
Nominations may be made by an individual, the
local senate, or the Executive Committee of the
Academic Senate. If a faculty member has been
previously nominated or has previously served
and would like to be reconsidered, a letter of
intent should be sent to the Senate Office, along
with a current vitae.
In preparing a nomination, we urge the following:
Candidates
for nomination are strongly encouraged to include
a letter of endorsement
from their local academic senate.
Candidates
for nomination should submit a letter of introduction,
a current curriculum vitae
outlining relevant professional activities, and a letter
from you as the nominating agent.
All original
materials must be received in the Academic
Senate Office by 5:00 p.m. on Monday,
December 4, 2006. NO FAXES WILL BE ACCEPTED. However, we encourage you to submit your
application early.
Candidates for nomination will be selected by
the Executive Committee to be interviewed on
January 12, 2007. PLEASE ASK YOUR NOMINEE
TO HOLD THIS DATE OPEN. All candidates will be notified
of the outcome of the nomination process. We
thank you for helping us identify worthy and
qualified candidates who will represent our faculty
honorably.
