At their September 11, 2006
meeting in Sacramento , the Board of Governors
unanimously
voted to approve the Title 5 regulation changes
recommended by the Academic Senate to increase
the minimum English and mathematics competencies
required for an associate degree. The regulation
change was filed with the Secretary of State
on November 29, 2006 and became legally
effective December 29, 2006. The change will
be effective
for students who enter in Fall 2009. The Board
also emphasized how important it is that the
Basic Skills Initiative be successful.
