Counseling and Library Science Faculty Development
Institute
Unlike many of our other events, the Teaching Institute each year will change its focus. This year, the focus is on the professional development for counseling and library science faculty.
General Information
The
2009 Teaching Institute: Counseling & Library
Science Faculty
The 2009 Teaching Institute will focus
on the many ways counselors and librarians
support student success in the California
community colleges. The Institute provides
a unique faculty development opportunity
for our wide range of library science,
counseling and student support faculty.
Meeting the diverse needs of our broad
population of developmental students will
also be discussed. Each day will be filled
with general and breakout sessions exploring
effective practices of interest to counseling
and library science faculty in California
community colleges, as well as relevant
statewide issues such as Accreditation,
the Basic Skills Initiative, Statewide
Career Pathways, and Information Competency.
The Institute will address such topics
as counseling specific populations, articulation,
serving diverse students, building relationships
and programs between faculty members in
different departments and divisions, and
general strategies for promoting student
success. Attendees will have opportunities
throughout the Institute to ask questions,
pursue discussions, share issues and strategies,
and develop a network of support. There
will also be some time to relax and enjoy
the surroundings.
About the Location The institute will be held at theSan Jose Marriott (301 South Market Street, San Jose, CA 95113) on February 20-22, 2009. The Marriott only offers valet parking. A special rate of $15.00 per car is being offered for overnight and daily guests. Additional self parking options are available near the hotel. If you are flying to the institute, the closest airport to the hotel is San Jose International Airport. The hotel does NOT offer a shuttle service; however, a taxi cab ride from the airport averages $20 per way. If you are traveling with a group, this would be the most economical means.
