In order to continue our efforts
of representing the students of the Community
College System, on behalf of the Student
Senate Council, we are pleased to hold
the 2nd Annual Spring General Assembly
of the Student Senate for California Community
Colleges.
As you may be aware the Student Senate for California
Community Colleges Constitution was ratified
on May 7, 2006. The adopted constitution recognized
the Student Senate as the statewide organization
for students in community colleges. This constitution
called for two General Assemblies per year in
which all recognized associated student body
organizations would be gathered to take action
on statewide issues. This Assembly is designed
to take action on resolutions, conduct the election
of Regional and At-Large Senators for 2007-08,
update you on statewide issues, and refine the
Student Senate governance documents.
The theme for the 2nd Annual Spring General
Assembly is “Moving Forward: Working Together
for a Better Future”, and will take place
at the Manhattan
Beach Marriott in Manhattan Beach. In keeping
with the past Student Senate General Assemblies,
we hope to continue to establish a strong foundation
between leaders of the local student associated
student bodies and the statewide Student Senate.
Given the evaluations previously received and
the experiences learned from the two previous
Assemblies, an additional day has been added
to this year’s Spring Assembly and the
format has been slightly modified. The General
Assembly will include a number of breakout sessions
on statewide student issues, as well as sessions
on Student Senate governance documents. Details
on the resolution and election process will be
forthcoming in a separate communication.
Don’t miss out on this very important
opportunity to move the Student Senate forward.
This is your opportunity to make a difference.
We highly encourage student leaders from every
community college and their advisors to participate
in this great event. We hope that you will be
able to join us in our efforts of building a
strong Student Senate.
Please download the registration form and share it with your students. The
deadline for submission of the form is April 13, 2007 and
the deadline for room reservations is April 4, 2007.
