is on hiatus.
Committee Charge The Faculty
Development Committee develops papers and processes
to promote good
practices in faculty development. The Committee
provides guidance in all aspects of faculty development,
including the development of innovations in teaching/learning
strategies and in the promotion of academically
sound teaching/learning practices.

survey of colleges and their faculty development
programs and flex day activities held in
2003-2004 to seek information on how these

the faculty development committee and amount
of reassigned time the committee chair
receives, and other data to collect based
on recommendations of the Faculty Development

a survey Spring 2006 and will utilize data
to better meet needs of local senates at
plenary session, leadership, Voc Ed leadership
and a Teaching institute. This data will
also be used in the paper Fall 06 and to
share with Legislature.

The Faculty Development Committee recommends
a target date of February 2007. Detailed
plans for Teaching Institute are done.
Encourage local
senates to take a more proactive role in
identifying faculty professional needs and
a more proactive role in the design and preparation
of local districts professional development

Urge local
senates to maintain their statutory role
in overseeing faculty professional development
(including faculty training in the use of
technology), regard technology committees
as advisory (not policy makers) to the local
senate's professional development committee,
and to protect the local senate's right to
recommend policy for faculty professional
development. (S00 11.04)

to oversee the allocation of faculty and

Work with local senates
to facilitate understanding of the importance
of their role regarding faculty development;
and urge local governing boards and administrators
to budget appropriately and to honor local
senate requests for professional development

New. Reinforced this information at breakouts
Fall 05. BOG requested unused growth funds
for possible use in faculty development.
Final June budget June 06 included funding
on one-time basis for faculty development.
3.2
Increase
professional development funding
Continue to
advocate the restoration of funding BCP (budget
change proposal) for faculty development
programs as stated in past resolutions (S01
12.01; F02 12.01; F01 12.02; S02 12.01)
Ongoing.
The governor did not include the BCP in the January, 2006 budget; the May
Revise (2006) also did not include Faculty Development funding. Final
budget June 06 did include funding on a one time basis. This is an ongoing
task for permanent line in budget. BOG did ask for unused growth funds
to possibly be used for faculty development.
Encourage local senates
to use their local shared governance processes
to develop plans for supporting faculty and
staff development if the funds are not reinstated
in the budget and encourage the Chancellor's
office not to lower staff development reporting
requirements even if funding is not reinstated.

to the Legislature. Ended up in final June
06 budget with funding on one-time basis
but the Governor vetoed it.
