Institute. This year’s
Vocation
Education Institute was
held at the Hayes Mansion in
San Jose. Over 120 faculty attended
this event and participated
in a number of informative breakouts.Click

Charge
The Occupation Education Committee provides a
forum for discussion of current vocational education
issues, develops consensus on those issues and
recommends policy and positions to the Executive
Committee and the General session. The Committee
develops and implements strategies to increase
the number of occupational education faculty
on their local Senates.

EDPAC groups. Continue to monitor for new
legislation that weakens standards in curriculum

about the new funding options and requirements
with VTEA/Perkins funding and oppose any
changes that circumvent agreed-upon local
budgetary processes for the local distribution
of VTEA funding.

Governors to undertake advocacy with California

states whose community college programs rely
on this funding to ensure the continuance
of the Perkins funding for community college
vocational programs.

substantial and ongoing funding mechanism
to address equipment needed to ensure the
currency and adequacy of community college

areas of old papers that needed updating and gathered information that needed
to be added to new paper(s). Start to work on a new paper on vocational issues.
Perkins funding was reauthorized after a fight and will continue to 2012. A
special system committee was formed to do a 5-year CTE plan and Perkins plan.
This is due out Fall 2007. Priority: High

reduce vocational students unit load to qualify
for CalWorks from 12 units to 9 units.
