Upon successful completion of this Module, you will be able to:

  1. explain what an educational program is.
  2. compare and contrast the different types of degrees and certificates offered by the California community colleges.
  3. discuss the components of an associate degree, including the difference between a major and an area of emphasis, an AA and an AS, and local and transfer degrees.
  4. explain what an "Associate Degree for Transfer" is.
  5. discuss the different types of credit certificates that a college can offer.
  6. explain the unique nature of apprenticeship training.
  7. identify opportunities for creating noncredit awards and certificate programs to link students in noncredit classes with future education or improved job opportunities.
  8.  explain the types of noncredit awards that colleges may make available to students.
  9. explain what CDCP refers to.

This is the second course in a 5-course series of courses that focuses on curriculum development. This course is an offering of the Professional Development College of the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges. This course provides an overview of the programs and awards offered in the California community colleges. The various types of degrees that colleges can offer are discussed, as well as the different types of noncredit and credit certificates that students can be awarded. This course consists of multiple units. There is a quiz associated with each unit and a comprehensive final exam. Successful completion requires earning 100% on all quizzes and at least an 80% on the final exam for each course. All assessments are multiple-choice. While quizzes may be taken more than once, the final exam can only be taken once.
