Whereas California community colleges have been making only limited progress toward the goal of achieving staff and faculty diversity, and
Whereas California community colleges are currently engaged in extensive hiring activities, presenting an unparalleled opportunity to make major strides toward our diversity hiring goals, and
Whereas all districts are required to have in place diversity hiring plans and are required to provide diversity hiring training to all members of hiring selection committees, and
Whereas some districts are not adhering to their plans and/or are not providing diversity hiring training to selection committees,
Resolved that the Academic Senate urge the Chancellor's Office to exercise stringent oversight to ensure that districts are implementing their diversity hiring plans, and
Resolved that the Academic Senate urge the Chancellor's Office to exercise its oversight function to ensure that diversity hiring training is being provided by all districts to all members of hiring selection committees, and
Resolved that the Academic Senate urge local senates to (a) put their district administrations on notice that they must work with the academic senate to implement their diversity hiring plans and provide required diversity hiring plans and required diversity hiring training, and (b) notify the Chancellor's Office, with a copy to the Academic Senate, should there be a failure to comply in a timely manner.
