Summary
Work to advise and support local academic senates in ensuring that any new agreements appropriately preserve the role of local academic senates in faculty hiring criteria, policies and procedures specified in Education Code 87360; provide leadership at the system level to ensure fair and effective hiring processes and practices and to ensure that any future actions by the Chancellor be informed through the consultation process and the appropriate role of the Academic Senate in faculty hiring.
Status Report

EEO added to the charge for EDAC.

Whereas, The Chancellor's Office has decided not to appeal the ruling of Connerly vs. State Personnel Board;

Whereas, This decision will effectively mean that current faculty hiring practices and policies will need to be revised in local districts; and

Whereas, Education Code 87360 states that the criteria, policies and procedures for faculty hiring shall be agreed upon jointly by local governing boards and academic senates;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate immediately work to advise and support local academic senates in ensuring that any new agreements appropriately preserve the role of local academic senates in faculty hiring criteria, policies and procedures specified in Education Code 87360 thus ensuring that all hiring policies are agreed upon jointly by the governing boards and academic senates; and

Resolved, That the Academic Senate provide leadership at the system level to ensure fair and effective hiring processes and practices and to ensure that any future actions by the Chancellor be informed through the consultation process and the appropriate role of the Academic Senate in faculty hiring.
