A Rostrum article on college participation in the LGBT Pride Index appeared in the February issue.

Whereas, The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges has long been committed to serving the academic and student service needs of all students to the best of its ability with limited resources;

Whereas, The LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender)-Friendly Campus Climate Index (www.campusclimateindex.org) is a free resource which allows colleges to document the policies, programs, and practices they use to ensure that their colleges are welcoming for LGBT students;

Whereas, The LGBT-Friendly Campus Climate Index gives participating colleges a free confidential report of their scores and a customized list of recommendations for ways to make their colleges even more welcoming for LGBT students; and

Whereas, The LGBT-Friendly Campus Climate Index is a tool all colleges can use to assess themselves and discover policies, programs, and practices that are being used at other colleges;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges encourage local colleges to participate in the LGBT-Friendly Campus Climate Index; and

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges seek, where appropriate, to use data collected through the LGBT-Friendly Campus Climate Index in the Senate’s ongoing efforts to better understand and serve the needs of LGBT students.
