Whereas, The only existing statement of mission appears in the 1969 initial documents of incorporation for the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges and reads: The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges represents the faculty of the Community Colleges, ensuring effective participation in the formation of statewide policies on academic and professional matters. The Academic Senate strengthens and supports the local academic senates of the [109] California Community Colleges;
Whereas, The Academic Senate has not submitted to the body a current statement of its mission and purpose; and
Whereas, The Executive Committee of the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges, having expressed its desire for such a public statement to use in defining and promoting its work and efforts, has approved a draft mission statement;
Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges adopt the following proposed mission statements a reflection of its goals, intentions, and defining characteristics: The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges fosters the effective participation by community college faculty in all statewide and local academic and professional matters; develops, promotes, and acts upon policies responding to statewide concerns; and serves as the official voice of the faculty of California Community Colleges in academic and professional matters.The Academic Senate strengthens and supports the local senates of all California community colleges.
