Over the past decade, the California Community Colleges have undergone dramatic changes resulting from legislative reform and the budget process. While the legislation is well-intended, it may not address the problem it is trying to fix, and in fact, legislative changes often have unintended consequences affecting student success. As future legislation is imminent, it is essential for faculty to be strong advocates at the state level with a fundamental understanding of policy development.
