New Technologies

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges adopt the following recommendations regarding new technologies as presented in the AACJC Futures Commission report:

a. That every college develop a campus-wide plan for the use of technology and that such plans integrate educational and administrative applications and include incentive programs for faculty to adapt educational technology to classroom needs;

Articulation - CAN

Whereas in 1988 both the University of California and the California State University made a major commitment to increase their participation in the California Articulation Number System,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges recommend to local senate leaders that they work with their administrators to increase the number of courses articulated through CAN.

Basic Skills

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges recommend to the Chancellor's Office and local senates that remediation and academic skill development be a part of academic and vocational disciplines where appropriate.

Basic Skills

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges encourage local senates to adopt the following policies on basic skills classes:

1. That colleges seek expert teachers to teach basic skills.

2. That expert teachers be considered those who use effective teaching strategies to meet the needs of students in precollegiate basic skills classes.

3. That there be adequate staffing to effect these policies in order to meet the needs of basic skills students.

Curriculum - Social Science/History Competency Statement

Whereas representatives of four segments of public education in California - High School, Community College, California State University, and the University of California - have written a statement on competencies and preparation in the Social Sciences-History, and

Whereas the document specifies minimum knowledge and skills in history and social sciences expected of students entering California colleges and universities, and

Transfer Curriculum

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges recognize the success of the Intersegmental Committee of the Academic Senates in developing a core curriculum, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges continue to pursue, both through the Intersegmental Committee of the Academic Senates and through the Intersegmental Coordinating Council and its cluster committees, further alignment between the community college curriculum and that of four-year schools to facilitate success of transfer students.

Telecourse Approval

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges recommend to local senates that when discipline faculty consider approval of a telecourse proposal, they examine the proposal for adequacy of supplemental reading and enrichment materials and activities.
