Event Dates

The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges is committed to providing resources to the field to further empower and help our system move forward during this time of crisis. To that end, the Academic Senate has put together a series of professional development opportunities to address some of the most critical issues facing our students and faculty today. Part 5 of the professional development series is focused on topics related to planning for fall 2020, curriculum, open educational resources, self-care, and governance.

  • Senate Presidents Q & A - This small group discussion is an opportunity for senate presidents to connect with ASCCC and each other to share current concerns, ideas, and support.

  • 2:00PM - Curriculum Chairs Q & A - Curriculum Chairs are invited to join ASCCC Curriculum Chair Cheryl Aschenbach for small group discussions centered on curriculum challenges and practices, both related to everyday curriculum work and new curricular demands in response COVID-19.
  • 11:00AM - Small-Group Discussion: Planning for Fall 2020 - Area A - This meeting is a follow-up small-group session for the Planning for Fall 2020 webinar that took place on April 20. The meeting will be co-facilitated by the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges and the California Community Colleges Chief Instructional Officers. Attendees are encouraged to attend by Area; this meeting is a gathering for Area A. Space is limited to 30 attendees, so please register as soon as you can.

Wednesday, May 6

  • 12:00PM - English and Math Pathways and Noncredit Development While co-requisites are showing promise for some student populations, the data clearly shows that this is not the case for all student populations. Students, faculty, and administrators have voiced loud concerns regarding high-unit co-requisite coursework that may or may not address the skills students need. This webinar discusses no-unit coursework and customized time to learn skills relevant to success delivered through noncredit. Innovative ideas and strategies will be explored such as reconceptualizing our approach to support services. 
  • 1:00PM - Grading Options during COVID-19 - Chancellor's Office COVID-19 guidance has presented faculty and colleges with multiple options for helping students weather the crisis with as little negative impact on their grades and transcript as possible.   • 12:00PM - Year 4 of Guided Pathways: What are we Doing and Where are we Going? - Join members of the ASCCC Guided Pathways Taskforce and campus leaders working on Guided Pathways throughout the state as they discuss progress, challenges, and goals for the upcoming year. This webinar looks at what colleges are doing the end of funding for guided pathways implementation approaches. How are colleges integrating their Guided Pathways work, framework, and committee members into a permanent part of their governance structure? How are innovations and changes going to be funded once the Guided Pathways funds run out? How are students impacted and responding to the Guided Pathways work? What Guided Pathways recommendations have been working, and what aspects of the work need iterations to accomplish the 4 pillars of Guided Pathways?

  • 2:00PM - Data Implications for Spring 2020 - What impact will the COVID-19 crisis have on our collective understanding of student equity and success for spring 2020? Do we try to incorporate the data or do we dismiss the data? Can we learn from the data? How will this data effect the Student Centered Funding Formula, evaluation of AB 705 implementation, and students, especially in regard to financial aid, the GI Bill and transfer.
