2013 Vocational Education Leadership Institute

Event Dates

To be held in conjunction with CCCAOE's Spring Conference. Limited to 50 registrants.

Please join us for this year’s Vocational Leadership Institute as we learn and share ways to fuel California’s economy with our CTE programs and initiatives.

The structure of this year’s Vocational Leadership Institute, being held March 20-22, 2013 at the Marriott Oakland City Center, is to help faculty identify and solve the unique problems and challenges faced by CTE faculty and students as well as our workforce partners. We are pleased to partner with the California Community College Association for Occupational Education (CCCAOE) in a joint conference with the theme “Career Technical Education: Fueling the Economy.”

The Vocational Leadership Institute is the only conference specifically directed at promoting and enhancing leadership skills among California community college vocational faculty as a group. This year’s breakout sessions include exciting and provocative lectures focusing on:

the impact of outside forces on CTE

• Ways to Streamline Multiple Accreditation Requirements
• When Ludicrous Tuition Doesn’t Matter: Competing with For-Profits; Serving Multiple Masters?

using CTE to grow the economy

• Responding Effectively to Industry: If not us, who?
• Clusters and Educational Enterprise Zones

and becoming more responsive and efficient

• Lessons Learned from Former Curriculum Chairs
• Regional Advisory Groups

As an added bonus, faculty members attending the Vocational Leadership Institute can attend any CCCAOE-sponsored breakout session at no extra cost.

Community colleges, perhaps now more than ever, are being called on to support and grow our state’s economy by training new and incumbent workers with innovative curriculum, developing strategic partnerships with industry and government, and supporting new and emerging businesses as well as educational programs. To be successful, the thoughtful and sustained leadership of vocational faculty is crucial if career technical education is to be the fuel for driving these initiatives.
