Whereas academic freedom is essential to the free search for truth and its free expression, and

Whereas academic freedom is being challenged on many fronts and may be negatively affected by legislation or regulation,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges adopt the "AAUP 1940 statement of Principles on Academic Freedom", Sections (a)(b)(c) (Appendix C), and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges write a position paper on academic freedom that further develops the statement.
