Whereas the Academic Senate in its resolutions for nearly three decades has supported equitable opportunities for all students, including historically underrepresented students, to learn and to develop their capabilities, both in curricular and co-curricular activities,
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges to rewrite its proposed new Standard Five (Student Support and Development) #8 to include the following underlined text: The Institution supports equitable co-curricular programs, including athletics, that meet the needs of all students and the institution supports a co-curricular environment that foster intellectual and personal development for all of its students and encourages personal and civic responsibility.
