Whereas fiscal problems have impacted higher education's ability to add new programs at will in California, and
Whereas engineering technology is an emerging discipline and master's programs are offered in adjoining states, and
Whereas the accrediting agency for engineering technology, the National Technology Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (TAC/ABET) requires instructors in an accredited program to hold master's degrees,
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges accept for review and discussion by the field during the discipline review process, the addition of engineering technology to the Master's list as follows: Master's in any field of engineering technology or engineering OR Bachelor's in either of the above AND a Master's in physics, mathematics, computer science, biological sciences, or chemistry OR the equivalent.
