Status Report

Committee determined that the concept of an Advocate of the Year would be more appropriate to acknowledge supporters. The recommended criteria has been approved by the Executive Committee. The Legislative and Governmental Relations Committee is developing a Advocate of the Year award that will address this goal.

Whereas, The collective power of the faculty and our students is a major political voting block resonating throughout the State of California; and

Whereas, Our constituents have not had an opportunity to benefit from the collective knowledge, careful analysis of issues, and thoughtful consideration of candidates who are true advocates of the California community colleges;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges use our potential massive power to endorse initiatives that promote and support the mission and goals of the California community colleges;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges invite individuals with statewide impact on the California community colleges to address the Academic Senate beginning at the Fall 2005 Plenary session; and

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges initiate a mechanism to acknowledge strong supporters of the California community colleges. MSC Disposition: Local Senates
