Session breakouts were held in Fall 03 and Spring 04 The position paper "Roles and Responsibilities of Faculty Academic Chairs: An Academic Senate Perspective" was adopted at Spring session and will be published shortly.
Whereas, Compensated faculty division and department chairs are essential to ensure faculty primacy in our 11 areas of responsibility; and
Whereas, There is a movement to eliminate compensated faculty chairs and replace them with professional managers;
Resolved, That the Academic Senate reaffirm its support for faculty division and department chairs and
1) Prepare a paper on best practices for faculty chairs;
2) Inform local senates about effective models for administrative structures;
3) Provide assistance with leadership recruitment and training for faculty chairs.
