Whereas there are an increasing number of community colleges and districts which have either formed, or are considering the formation of, independently chartered and/or incorporated foundations, and
Whereas the mission of these foundations is to provide a means to attract the interest, support and involvement of the local community in the college and its programs, and
Whereas the scope and activities of these foundations are adjunctive or supplemental to college projects and programs developed and funded through the established institutional system, and
Whereas the foundations' decisions and actions are developed by the foundation with the intent to enhance or support needed and/or desirable projects or programs for the college or district, and
Whereas the decisions and actions of the college foundation will have potentially important and substantial consequences for the college,
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges recommend to local senates that they support faculty participation in the development and review of their college/district foundation's activities, and
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges suggest that local senates report to the Executive Committee the degree of their participation in foundation activities before the 1987 Spring Conference.
