Whereas the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges has always supported quality instruction, and Section 87357.(a)(1) of AB 1725 states that the Board of Governors shall "with regard to minimum qualifications for faculty, consult with, and rely primarily on the advice and judgment of the statewide Academic Senate," and

Whereas Section 87459.(a) of AB 1725 states that "No one may be hired to serve as a community college faculty member, instructional administrator, or student services administrator under the authority granted by the regulations unless the [local] governing board determines that he or she possesses qualifications that are at least equivalent to the minimum qualifications specified in regulations of the [local] board adopted pursuant to Section 87356" which sets out the standards for hire as a community college faculty member, and

Whereas the Academic Senate has worked diligently on the "Disciplines List" of minimum qualifications for hire to ensure that faculty teaching in California community colleges are qualified to teach within a discipline, encompassing a broad range of knowledge and not a single course, and

Whereas the Academic Senate has consistently supported an equivalency policy for disciplines, not single courses,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges affirm its support that the minimum standards for hire and their equivalencies are for disciplines, not single courses, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges propose regulatory language to the Board of Governors to support this position's.
