The Academic Senate was instrumental in launching the "Real Costs of Education" project, which will result in an analysis of the funding needs of the California community colleges in order for them to provide education of the highest quality.
Whereas, The Full-time Equivalent Student funding of the California Community College since 1965 have averaged 49% of the per-student allocation for the California State Universities and 21% of the per-student allocation for the University of California;
Whereas, The California Community College System is expected to provide the first two years of undergraduate education for most students in California;
Whereas, The California Community College System serves the vast majority of socio-economically disadvantaged students in California's publicly funded higher education; and
Whereas, The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges deplores any pattern of funding that systematically discriminates against socio-economically disadvantaged students;
Resolved, That the Academic Senate urge the Legislature to fund all lower division classes in California public institutions of higher education at nondiscriminatory and equitable levels.
