Whereas, Mike Anker has served the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges as an exemplary President, Vice President and Past President; as a member of the Executive Committee; as an active participant in the Intersegmental Coordinating Council, the Intersegmental Committee of Academic Senates and our Educational Policies Committee; and most recently as a member of the Academic Senate's 2001-02 Equity and Diversity Committee;
Whereas, Mike Anker has presented Academic Senate perspectives before state administrative and legislative bodies in persuasive argument to protect and further the education of countless community college students and affirm the responsibilities of faculty throughout California's system of public higher education and has offered cogent analyses in panels and breakout sessions as called upon;
Whereas, Mike Anker has labored over and presented extensive papers exploring and justifying a wide variety of Senate positions and has offered potential resolutions strengthening the academic, professional, and philosophic foundations of the Academic Senate and in doing so has furthered the academic and professional milieu of acceptance and respect within which community college faculty spend their days, weeks, months, and careers; and
Whereas, Mike Anker retired from the faculty of Contra Costa College in Spring 2004;
Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges confer the status of Senator Emeritus on Mike Anker.
