Whereas the United States Supreme Court has broadened the rights of students,

Whereas a recent study has shown that gender inequities may exist at schools and colleges,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges direct the Executive Committee to review the report of the American Association of University Women on discrimination against women students in schools and colleges, the Supreme Court decision of Franklin v. Gwinnett County Public Schools (90-918, decision rendered February 26, 1992), and the law underlying that decision (Title IX of the 1972 law on education), and bring to a future session a report on gender inequity in the community colleges including recommendations for policy changes at state or local levels as well as recommendations for staff development activities.
