The first draft of the committees recommendation for developing advisory committees to review grant applications was put on the agenda for the June 97 Executive Committee. After approval of the recommendation, it was distributed to local senate presidents.

Whereas the Chancellor's Office has limited resources for the printing, handling, and distribution of information on grant opportunities, and

Whereas that limitation in resources has led to the initiation of a restricted mailing procedure which identifies "only one person at each college" to receive grant information, and

Whereas that "one person at each college" does not always distribute the grant information to the appropriate person(s) or program(s) who would have interest in writing grant applications for their programs or college, and

Whereas even when the grant information is distributed to the appropriate person(s) or program(s) it is often not done in a timely manner,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges request that the Board of Governors direct the Chancellor's Office to provide the Academic Senate with announcements of all Board of Governors and Chancellor's Office grants, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge the Chancellor's Office to disseminate all grant application materials to the local senates by the most expeditious and prudent means for final distribution to the appropriate person(s) or program(s), and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges encourage local senates to create a clearinghouse for grant application information and recording of grant application histories, and an advisory committee for review of grant applications prior to sign-off and submission.
