Whereas dramatic changes in the nature of the workforce are creating changes in the education required for entry level occupations that require increasingly high skills and flexibility, and

Whereas community colleges are major providers of workforce education, and

Whereas the community college values superior teaching and learning settings that provide both access and excellence for all students, and

Whereas integration of academic and vocational education bridges a chasm that currently unjustly divides programs and faculty,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges affirm its leadership role in promoting integration of academic and vocational education by encouraging projects that show promise of developing strategies for integrating academic and vocational education and by encouraging universities to accept applied academic coursework, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges support faculty development around the theme of integration of academic and vocational education, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges promote evaluation projects to assess the effectiveness of integration projects.
