Whereas proper placement of students is critical to educational success, and

Whereas students who do not meet the prerequisites of a course have a negative influence on the learning environment, and

Whereas class sizes are limited, and

Whereas students who are underprepared require extra time and energy of the teacher thus taking the time from those students who are properly prepared, and

Whereas prerequisites are critical to maintaining the rigor and vitality of our transfer courses and their articulation with colleges and universities, and

Whereas the integrity of the course is the responsibility of the faculty,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges encourage local senates to involve their entire faculty in discussions with the administration in order to understand regulations concerning establishing and validating prerequisites for sequential courses to provide the best education for students.
