Whereas guidelines for course approval have changed since the publication of the Program and Course Approval and Reporting Handbook, and
Whereas a re-examination of the regulations for approval of stand-alone courses is now underway, and
Whereas changes in the procedures for the approval of stand-alone courses are likely,
Resolved that the Academic Senate work with the Chancellor's Office to revise the Program and Course Approval and Reporting Handbook, and
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community College urge the Chancellor's Office to include in the revised Handbook a set of guidelines for delegated approval by local curriculum committees for all stand-alone courses.
Academic Senate representatives met with CIO representatives and Chancellor's Office personnel several times to revise the Program and Course Approval Handbook. The revised handbook was presented and discussed at the Curriculum Institute. It was determined that the revision of the handbook would not include policy changes, so although Senate representatives expressed the desire for a discussion of delegated approval to local curriculum committees for stand-alone courses, no changes regarding the approval of stand-alone courses occurred.
