President's Updates, Rostrum articles and technical assistance urge review/creation; worked with CCCAOE to disseminate survey on status of local discontinuance policies; breakouts at institutes and session address issue as well.
Whereas, Colleges have proposed discontinuing programs for purely budgetary reasons and without consultation with their local academic senates;
Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge local senates to develop policies and processes through consultation for eliminating or substantially changing educational programs;
Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge local academic senates to support the position that only sound academic criteria, established through a consultative process, be used for eliminating or substantially changing educational programs; and
Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges recommend that any decision to terminate an instructional program occur only after the college has conducted a systematic review of the program in question according to a program discontinuance process that has been developed in consultation with the local academic senate.
