Status Report

The President and representatives participated in discussions on the development of the VTEA Plan. The plan has been adopted. The President and representatives continue to work with the Consultation Council and Chancellor's Office on the implementation of the plan.

Whereas the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges and the Chancellor's Office have appointed eight faculty to the Field Review Committee for the California State Plan for Vocational and Technical Education Act of 1998 (VTEA), and

Whereas the Plan allows for up to 10% of the funds be used for state leadership activities that provide for professional development of teaching skills, use of technology, vocational currency, and initial teacher preparation, and

Whereas the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges has successfully delivered breakout sessions, workshops, and conferences for faculty development, and

Whereas the Academic Senate's Basic Skills, Technology, Occupational Education, Curriculum, and Faculty Development Committees all offer expertise to community college faculty,

Resolved that the Academic Senate urge the Field Review Committee to identify in the California State Plan for Vocational and Technical Education Act of 1998 the Academic Senate as a primary resource for professional development activities, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate continue to deliver professional development activities that promote the integration of academic, developmental, and vocational education.
