Whereas the California Community Colleges provide the windows of educational opportunity for a vast number of minority, disabled, and disadvantaged students, and

Whereas institutional commitment (i.e., systemwide, districtwide, collegewide) to these students can be measured by the success and retention rates,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges take the position that the retention rate of minorities, disabled, and the disadvantaged be improved systemwide, by at least 5%, prior to the year 1992, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge faculty to join in this commitment by improving retention in each of their classes by at least 5% prior to the year 1992, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges recommend that local colleges/districts reinforce and support the endeavors of the faculty to enhance and augment the retention rate of minorities, disabled, and the disadvantaged.
