This was communicated in the President’s Update.

Whereas, The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges is on record as supporting student voter registration by approving resolution 17.03 S02 "Voter Registration and Student Mobilization";

Whereas, SB854, "Student E-Voter Registration Act of 2007," mandates community colleges to provide the option for students to receive pre-printed voter registration cards through online community college class registration by 2010;

Whereas, Current state budget reductions will negatively affect students in the community colleges, as well as possibly turning away up to 300,000 students if student fees are raised; and

Whereas, As of April 2008 ten community college districts have already implemented the Student E-Voter Registration System and have had 104,093 student requests to receive these pre-printed voter registration materials;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges support student registration and voting; and

Resolved, That Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge local senates to support their district's early implementation of the mandated Student E-Voter Registration Act of 2007. MSC Disposition: Local Senates
