Whereas a function of tenure is to maximize the freedom of faculty to provide society with innovative pedagogies, widely disseminated and diverse perspectives on issues and values, and

Whereas this function is widely misunderstood by the public and by the legislature, both locally and nationally,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges wholeheartedly affirm the value and worth of tenure and direct the Executive Committee to assign the writing of a position paper on tenure to the appropriate committee, and

Resolved that this position paper be complemented by an executive summary that would serve as a statement to be distributed to the media.
