Whereas, The draft Workforce Preparation and Economic Development Initiative includes proposals that will help the California community colleges better prepare students for the new economy;
Whereas, The draft Workforce Preparation and Economic Development Initiative includes participation of the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges in instituting recommended activities;
Whereas, The draft Workforce Preparation and Economic Development Initiative embarks a student-centered approach, designed primarily to develop valuable skills for students, not to meet the needs of corporate interests; and
Whereas, This Initiative is designed to build on the community college's established strengths of occupational education and workforce development and revise efforts that have not benefited students;
Resolved, That the Academic Senate commend the Chancellor's Office for its efforts in developing the draft Workforce and Economic Development Initiative, and
Resolved, That the Academic Senate continue to work with the Chancellor's Office to complete the Initiative.
