Status Report

The Curriculum Committee has created a survey, based on Exec recommendations, which will be distributed after the September Executive Committee Meeting.

Whereas, A poor budget environment is resulting in colleges' reducing or eliminating programs;

Whereas, Title 5 51022 states that colleges should have policies for the establishment, modification, or discontinuance of courses; and

Whereas, Many local senates need assistance in using the collegial consultation process to review, modify, or develop policies and procedures for program discontinuance at this critical time;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges research the numbers of necessary programs, types of programs, and reasons why programs have been reduced/discontinued and publish this information;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges utilize the research findings to provide information to legislators to help promote increased funding to necessary community college programs; and

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges reaffirm its position that program review and program discontinuance be separate processes and urge local senates to actively participate in both processes.
