Whereas the Chancellor's Office is authorized to approve new programs, substantial changes in programs, and stand-alone courses, and
Whereas the Board of Governors and Chancellor's Office have approved the delegation of its approval authority to the colleges for stand-alone courses and substantial changes in programs, and
Whereas AB 1725 grants faculty the primary responsibility for curriculum,
Resolved that the Academic Senate seek the establishment of an advisory committee to the Chancellor's Office for curriculum issues which might include oversight of program and course approval procedures, delegation of approval to local colleges, and program review standards, and
Resolved that the committee's structure reflect a shared governance model in which the primary decision-making responsibility belongs to faculty, and
Resolved that the committee deal primarily with state curriculum policies and procedures and be an advocate for community college curriculum with other segments of higher education.
